Provisional Registration is the registration which is given to a Medical, Dental or Allied Health Professionals who intends to undergo internship training in the country. This registration can be applied by a local or foreign Medical, Dental or Allied Health Professionals.

A Medical, Dental or Allied Health Professional is given a provisional registration if he/she  has completed undergraduate training in medicine, dentistry or allied health sciences and  has passed the pre-internship examination conducted by the Council.

Procedures for provisional registration:

A person who has passed a pre- internship examination and intends to obtain provisional registration  shall submit an application to the council.

An application made shall be accompanied by the following requirements:-

  1.  Certified copy of qualifying diploma/degree(MD/MBBS/MB.ChB/DDS/BDS
  2.  Certificates of Secondary Education
  3. Certificate of Birth
  4. Certified copy of Passport(if not Tanzanian)
  5. Certificate of evaluation of academic qualifications from Tanzania Commission for Universities(TCU) (if trained outside Tanzania)
  6. One passport size photograph
  7. A non-refundable application fee of TSHS 40,000 for Tanzanians and USD 100 for non Tanzanians

Where an applicant complies with all the requirements, the Registrar shall, upon approval of the Council, issue certificate of provisional registration to the applicant within one month from the date of receiving the decision of the Council. And the applicant shall be entitled to undergo internship training at any desired accredited internship centre with the certificate of provisional registration.

A person who is provisionally registered  shall report to the internship centre for the purpose of internship training. Failure to report, shall cause the cancellation of his provisional registration.

The Registrar may reject an application for registration if he is satisfied that the applicant has not met any or all of the requirements above. And upon the rejection of application;  he shall notify the applicant in writing within seven days stating the reasons for such rejection.

Validity of Certificate of Provisional Registration:

A certificate of provisional registration shall be valid for the period of twelve consecutive months and shall entitle the holder to practice medicine, dentistry or allied health sciences under supervision of a senior medical, dental or allied health Professional in an accredited internship Centre named in the certificate.

The Council may extend the validity of certificate of provisional registration for any period of time as may be necessary.
